Dry Bulk Sector
Dry Shipping Planning Service (DSPS)
MSI's Dry Shipping Planning Service (DSPS) model is a fully interactive menu-driven modelling system for the dry bulk market. It is a highly effective support tool for quantifying market exposure, whether as a risk taker or capital provider, and comprises:
- A platform to access easily and quickly historic and forecasted data for over 2000 key dry bulk market annual timeseries
- A powerful analysis and simulation tool that enables the use of alternative assumptions to test market sensitivities and primary risks by modifying a wide range of macroeconomic, supply and demand inputs
- Evaluation of specific vessel cash flows, NPV, IRR and payback against both MSI and user-generated market scenarios
The DSPS model provides historical and forecast annual time-series data from 1980 to 2020 for:
- Macroeconomic and commodity price indicators
- Regional commodity consumption, production and stock changes
- Cargo volumes and deadweight demand by vessel size segment for 36 iron ore, 28 coal, 32 grain and 36 minor bulk bilateral trades
- Sector-specific fleet supply by size and age
- Explicit scrapping, cancellation and slippage assumptions
- Employment rates (fleet utilisation)
- Timecharter rates by segment
- Newbuild, secondhand (by age) and scrap prices by segment
DSPS is written on a Microsoft Excel® platform, and updates containing MSI's latest forecasts are distributed quarterly via an easily installable Microsoft Windows® installation package to coincide with the release of our quarterly DSPS market report. It is available as an annual subscription containing four updates a year, distributed via email.
