Container Sector
Container Shipping Planning Service (CSPS)
MSI's Container Shipping Planning Service (CSPS) model is fully interactive menu-driven modelling system for the containership market. It is a highly effective support tool for quantifying market exposure, whether as a risk taker or capital provider, and comprises:
- A platform to access easily and quickly historic and forecasted data for 800 key container market annual timeseries
- A powerful analysis and simulation tool that enables the use of alternative assumptions to test market sensitivities and primary risks by modifying a wide range of macroeconomic, supply and demand inputs
- Evaluation of specific vessel cash flows, NPV, IRR and payback against both MSI and user-generated market scenarios
The CSPS model provides historical and forecast annual time-series data from 1980 to 2025 for:
- Macroeconomic indicators
- Global container trade and movements by region
- TEU lifts by type (primary/transshipment and full/empty) and by region
- Containership supply and fleet developments by vessel size range
- Explicit scrapping, cancellation and slippage assumptions
- Timecharter rates, freight rates and operating costs by segment
- Newbuild, secondhand (by age) and scrap prices by segment
CSPS is written on a Microsoft Excel® platform, and updates containing MSI's latest forecasts are distributed quarterly via an easily installable Microsoft Windows® installation package to coincide with the release of our quarterly CSPS market report. It is available as an annual subscription containing four updates a year, distributed via email.
